Thiakis was founded in 2004 by Professor Steve Bloom and Dr John Burt to focus on the development of peptide hormones that regulate appetite, based on the research of Professor Bloom’s group at Imperial College London.
Thiakis' own development programme is focused on oxyntomodulin. Clinical studies with oxyntomodulin have shown it to be effective in reducing appetite and food intake, and increasing energy expenditure. A clinical study over 28 days has demonstrated significant weight loss can be achieved with continued oxyntomodulin administration.
